Doug Armstrong, GM of the St. Louis Blues, might’ve created a monster. During free agency in 2025, we’re poised to see them used regularly thanks to him finding top-end talent at bargain bin prices. One of those Rangers players who are vulnerable to offer-sheets is forward Matt Rempe, and GM Chris Drury will need to do his best to protect him.
Believe it or not, Matt Rempe is a wanted man in the NHL. That isn’t by the DOPS or referees as we’re used to.
This time around, Matt Rempe is an RFA and has solidified himself as a bottom-six forward who can contribute to a team’s success. He’s increased his value after this past season.
Making his entire 2023-2024 offseason training pay off for him.
Rempe, an RFA will be vulnerable to an offer-sheet, and if GM Chris Drury should prioritize an free agent, it’s one half of the Rempire Towers.
Rempe will be a Group II RFA, and once July 1st rolls around, if he receives an offer sheet, the Rangers will have to match it to keep his rights in the organization.
Rempe’s $820K entry-level contract expires in July, leaving him vulnerable to teams who’d love a mobile unit on the ice, who can score.
If the right team in the West with double digits worth of cap space presents him with an offer sheet of $2.3 million AAV, in return for a third-round draft pick as compensation?
That’s an easy win for a GM who could add to his bottom-six.
The Rangers will have to find a way to navigate the cap crunch and still keep the players they want around.
In 42 games with the Rangers this season, he scored 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists).
