It’s been made abundantly clear this past couple of weeks that new general manager Ken Holland and the Los Angeles Kings are pushing to win right away this regular season in the West in the Pacific Division.

It wouldn’t make sense for the Los Angeles Kings to give up young players in the active roster lineup on the trade block this regular season in the Pacific Division for Elias Pettersson

The latest rumor on the block and before the trade deadline next month in early March in a couple of weeks that has caught steam in the West in the Pacific Division with Holland and the Kings’ front office this regular season involves Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.

It sounds like the Kings could have potentially caught the interest from Pettersson after he had a big two-goal performance during the three-week break for the Olympics this past week for Team Sweden vs. Team Slovakia in the elimination rounds in the playoffs tournament.

The Kings and Holland in the front office do have the cap space, with a little over $15 million in cap room available at the trade deadline next month in early March. It could hypothetically work for the Kings and Holland on the trade block to pursue Pettersson going into the trade deadline in the West next month on the active roster lineup cap sheet.

A handful of rumors circling around in the media and on social media in this past couple of weeks in the West in the Pacific Division has involved the speculation that the Kings have picked up more interest in possibly kicking the tires on a trade involving Pettersson from the Canucks in Vancouver this regular season.

This report/rumor for the Kings comes as it was known this past week in the public reporting media that Holland and the LA front office are looking for a middle-six forward to boost the active roster lineup in the zone offensively, scoring the puck this regular season in the West.

I don’t know if the Kings have the pieces willing to offer on the trade block and before the trade deadline next month in early March to make a possible hypothetical deal work with the Canucks to get Pettersson on the open market in the West in the Pacific Division.

Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reported earlier this week on Tuesday (Feb. 24) that the Kings and Detroit Red Wings are two potential suitors on the trade block and before the trade deadline next month in early March, worth watching in pursuit of Pettersson on the open market this regular season.

The Kings shouldn’t get older and more expensive in the active roster lineup and on the cap sheet, dealing potential future draft capital and younger players like Quinton Byfield and Alex Laferriere on the trade block to get Pettersson from the Canucks in Vancouver this regular season.
