The Vancouver Canucks have received some huge news in their pursuit of young talent for their rebuild as the Boston Bruins have made a 21-year-old forward available.

“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” General Manager Allvin said.

Patrik Allvin did a decent job of bringing in some youth in the Quinn Hughes trade, landing Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium and Liam Ohgren, but he’s going to have another opportunity over the next week, with the trade deadline just seven days away and it appears that the Boston Bruins are willing to part with a young centerman.

“According to Pagnotta, one piece the Bruins are dangling and have made available is young forward Matthew Poitras, who is in the final year of his entry-level contract.” The Fourth Period’s article said.

Poitras, a native of Whitby, Ontario, has spent the majority of the 2025-26 season in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, registering 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists), 42 penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 47 games.

The Vancouver Canucks have several assets that could be intriguing to Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney, with Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk and Brock Boeser reportedly available for trade over the next week.

“They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise.” A source told Murphy in November.

A Conor Garland for Matthew Poitras swap could be possible, although it’s safe to assume that given how much term is remaining on the former’s contract, Patrik Allvin would want another asset attached to the deal, potentially even a second or third round pick.
