The Pittsburgh Penguins bounced back from a disappointing shootout loss to the New York Rangers by pummeling the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday afternoon, with the final score settling in at 5-0. It was always going to be tough to beat the Golden Knights on the second day of a back-to-back, but the Penguins controlled this one from the get-go.
While the five goals will catch fans’ attention, it was the play of goaltender Arturs Silovs that caught the team’s attention. Silovs stopped all 22 shots he faced in this one, helping the Pens pick up their second shutout victory of the year. After the game, Blake Lizotte rewarded Silovs by handing him the team construction helmet, which is given to the player who was the star of the game.
The Penguins haven’t always gotten great production from their goalies this season, but Silovs ensured that for one game at least, there would be no pucks entering Pittsburgh’s net. If there’s one way to respond to a shootout loss, it’s to go out and completely blank your opponent the next day.
With three games in the books since the Pens returned to the ice in the wake of the Olympic break, they have picked up a pair of wins and another point from their aforementioned loss. Pittsburgh will look to keep the positive momentum up when it returns to action for a clash against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
