After two poor showings in a row out of the Olympic break, the Chicago Blackhawks had one of their most complete performances of the entire 2025-26 season to defeat the Seattle Kraken 4-0 on Sunday. It was even more impressive considering the Blackhawks were on the back end of a back-to-back, as they traveled from Colorado late on Saturday night after a lousy 3-1 loss. What a much-needed bounce back.

Getting production from anyone not named Connor Bedard has been an issue since the regular season resumed, but that wasn’t the case on Sunday. The Blackhawks finally received some depth scoring, as the fourth line chipped in for two goals, while Teuvo Teravainen scored twice on special teams.

Funny enough, the Blackhawks actually didn’t need all the offensive support they received, as Arvid Soderblom had the best outing of his NHL career in net. More in the links for the takeaways from Soderblom’s first big-league shutout.

Around the league, the Los Angeles Kings have made a move behind the bench, Auston Matthews calls out his Maple Leafs teammates, and Michael Misa nets the OT winner for San Jose.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: In his 104th career NHL start, Arvid Soderblom finally earned his first NHL shutout. Soderblom didn’t have to work too hard to accomplish the feat, as the Chicago Blackhawks‘ defense stymied the Mammoth and only allowed 11 high-danger scoring chances. Depth scoring also finally came alive in the 4-0 win on Sunday. Fun stuff!

More CHN: ICYMI, Elliotte Friedman provided some updates on the Blackhawks’ biggest trade chips ahead of the 2026 trade deadline. To no surprise, Connor Murphy is available on the market. But the real kicker is the tidbit on Ilya Mikheyev, who hasn’t signed a contract extension and is now available for teams to pry away.

Not only did Arvid Soderblom secure a career milestone on Sunday, but so too did captain Nick Foligno. The captain’s tally early in the second period officially gave him 250 goals for his 19-year NHL career. With Foligno’s status up in the air leading into the trade deadline, this could potentially be his final goal with the Blackhawks.

On Monday morning, the Blackhawks announced that their new Blackhawks Ice Center, presented by Fifth Third Bank, is finally complete! The team’s social media account shared photos and a video of the completed facility. As someone who was down there just last week, I can confirm that everything looks pristine.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: With less than five days to go until the deadline, Chris Johnston has updated his trade board 8.0. Once again, three Blackhawks find themselves on the list of 56 players named.

ESPN: The Los Angeles Kings have seen enough to make a change behind the bench. Head coach Jim Hiller was fired on Sunday, and DJ Smith will serve as the interim coach for the remainder of the season. The Kings are 24-21-14 this season and currently sit three points back of a playoff spot. They have essentially been the same team over the last three years.

New York Post: The New York Islanders had another multi-goal comeback on Sunday, and rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer led the charge. Schaefer scored two more goals in the Isles’ 5-4 win over the Florida Panthers, becoming the first NHL rookie to net 20 goals this season. Just hand him the Calder Trophy now. That’s five wins in a row for the Islanders.

NHL.com: San Jose Sharks rookie Michael Misa has had an up-and-down first NHL campaign, but he’s been sharp since returning from the Olympic break. Misa scored the overtime-winner to lift the Sharks to a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets and now has four points in his last three games.

Toronto Hockey Now: Coming off the high of winning the Gold Medal at the Olympics for Team USA, it’s not too surprising that returning to the last-place Toronto Maple Leafs hasn’t exactly been a thrill for Auston Matthews. After a third straight loss out of the break, Matthews called his team “embarrassing.”

Sportsnet: Several players around the NHL were placed on waivers on Sunday, including Andrew Mangiapane and Alec Regula for the Edmonton Oilers. Robby Fabbri (St. Louis), Luke Kunin (Florida), and Guillaume Brisebois (Vancouver) were also waived by their respective teams.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins made a statement with a dominant 5-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. Dan Kingerski from PHN dissects how the Pens are winning without captain Sidney Crosby.

Carolina Hockey Now: It has been suspected for a while, but it sounds like a reunion between Vincent Trocheck and the Carolina Hurricanes may be more of a possibility than we previously believed.
