Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has finally broken his silence over ongoing trade rumors involving his name, with the deadline just two days away.
The Vancouver Canucks opted to keep Pettersson over Miller, believing in his ability to bounce back offensively and while he has looked better at times this season compared to last, the Sundsvall, Sweden native isn’t producing how the team needs him to be and as a result, he’s re-surfaced in trade rumors.
“Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson. Now, we know that there’s been a ton of speculation from a media perspective on Pettersson’s future with the Vancouver Canucks. That was more into the off-season, more last season than to this point.” TSN’s Darren Dreger said in January.
Vancouver Canucks’ Elias Pettersson finally breaks silence about trade rumors
Since his name began to pop up in the rumor mill again, Elias Pettersson found himself being linked to several clubs around the league including the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings, all three of whom are looking to add a centerman before Friday at Noon PT.
“I mean, I haven’t lived up to expectations of the contract, and I’ll be the first one to say it. Obviously, I wish it would be different, I’ll have played better, a lot more points, but it is what it is. I’m just trying to play a game tonight and see what happens.” Pettersson said earlier this week.
Pettersson might be garnering interest around the National Hockey League, but the odds of a deal getting done prior to Friday afternoon is quite unlikely, given the large financial commitment that comes with his contract and that the Vancouver Canucks have made it known they will not be retaining any of his salary.
There’s always a possibility that someone could step up with an offer that Patrik Allvin can’t refuse, but a trade involving Elias Pettersson is probably more likely to be completed in the summer, if the Canucks still want to pursue that avenue.
