The Colorado Avalanche have a chance to make a key addition before Friday’s NHL trade deadline.

Who exactly might that be? How about Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri.

Kadri, of course, is familiar to the Avalanche. He won a Stanley Cup with Colorado.

Now, he’s a clear trade candidate with the Flames scuffling and Kadri not getting any younger.

The Athletic’s Julian McKenzie predicted in a new article that this trade will come to fruition, and that Kadri will be sent from Calgary to Colorado.

“The Avalanche know all about Kadri, who won a Cup with the Avs before signing with the Flames as a free agent,” McKenzie writes. “Reports surfaced this past weekend that members of the Avs’ management staff were in Anaheim to watch the Flames-Ducks game. Would’ve been an ideal time to chat with GM Craig Conroy about whether or not they could strike a deal with the Flames to add a center ahead of their playoff push.”

The Flames also seem to have a strong likelihood to trade Blake Coleman, but he wouldn’t be as good a fit in Colorado.

The Avalanche have had a monster regular season, but it’s up to them to ensure that doesn’t go to waste when the playoffs got here.

Kadri has a ton of experience, and he still has a lot of his talent intact.

He’s got a few more years left on his contract, and that aspect of the deal could make it a bit tougher to value for the Avalanche. But as far as this season goes, a Kadri addition would have the potential to be a very good one for Colorado.
