A new club has entered the mix to acquire Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland before the deadline on Friday, with trade talks picking up involving the veteran.
“”There are serious discussions happening between #Isles & #Canucks.
Been told it’s surrounding Garland. But was also told that it could be Garland +.
We’ll see how this plays out.” Stefen Rosner of NHL.com said.
Things have since cooled on the Conor Garland front for the New York Islanders, but it looks like one of their Metropolitan Division rivals have decided to enter the race for the Scituate, Massachusetts native.

“It makes sense for the rebuilding Canucks to move him before Friday’s deadline if the offers are legit. But I think it’s more likely they move him in June.
Teams to watch on Garland: the Washington Capitals, the Bruins, the New York Islanders and the Devils, among others.” LeBrun said.
Coming into Thursday, the Washington Capitals, who sit four points back of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, had $15 million in available cap space for the trade deadline, and that’s expected to rise slightly as the day goes on after reports indicated earlier today that they’re working on a deal to send Nic Dowd to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Washington Capitals are trying to do whatever it takes to make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season, especially when considering that it could be the final season of Alexander Ovechkin’s career in the National Hockey League, with the future Hall of Famer set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.
With that in mind, there’s no doubt that the Capitals are going to make a big move or two before Friday’s deadline and a player like Conor Garland would certainly help their chances of making it to the postseason and would be a key middle-six forward that can play in all situations for head coach Spencer Carbery.
