The Washington Capitals are continuing to work toward getting younger, and they hope to see a couple of prospects make the full-time jump to the NHL next season. One of those names is Bogdan Trineyev.

Trineyev, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, is coming off an impressive sophomore season with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, where he put up 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 62 regular-season games before adding five goals and two assists in eight playoff games.

Given his growth this season, as well as vacancies expected to open up this summer, Trineyev appears all but certain to make the jump to the NHL and plug in well on that fourth line with Nic Dowd and Brandon Duhaime.

What else does he bring to the table?

The 23-year-old is a true power forward and grinder who can move the puck and has good offensive instincts. He’s fast, and he doesn’t shy away from playing physical. Trineyev has added to his strength over the years and has gotten more comfortable shooting the puck.

It’s the play away from the puck, though, that makes him an asset. The 6-foot-3 winger gets to the dirty areas and can set screens and defend hard. He plays a solid two-way game, and he can also kill penalties, battle hard for the puck and get in front of pucks.

Most importantly, he’s a coachable player with plenty of upside, and his ability to never give up on the play will serve the Capitals well.
