A New Jersey couple got an unexpected brush with hockey royalty during a night out in Hoboken.
Carli Van Riper and Hunter Good, both 25, were dining at Augustino’s Restaurant in Hoboken on Friday night, March 6, when they spotted New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes.
“We were out at dinner so I didn’t want to bother him, but my boyfriend is such a huge fan so we had to take a picture!!!” said Van Riper, a Rockaway native. “He was so sweet!”
The restaurant later shared a photo showing Hughes dining with members of his family, though his brother and Olympic teammate Quinn Hughes was not there, according to Van Riper.
Good, who lives in Morristown and was raised in Jefferson, has been a Devil’s fan since he was 5, his girlfriend said.
“Everyone [in the restaurant] was respecting him,” Van Riper said.
But once one person asked for a photo, others followed suit.
“Augustinos is a very private restaurant so people were giving him his peace,” she said. “He was very soft spoken and was very nice. Once he left, we posted pictures to give him space.”
