The Chicago Blackhawks were one of the most active teams during the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, making a few trades to get future assets. Depending on how you look at it, they did well acquiring draft picks and freeing up cap space, but the talent on the roster makes things a bit less attractive. Let’s take a look at what grade they were able to get for the moves they made before the deadline hit.
The Chicago Blackhawks receive strong grade for their 2026 NHL Trade Deadline moves

Contrary to what the NHL Trade Deadline winners and losers article said, the Blackhawks seemingly had a solid deadline. In an article where each team’s writer graded how they did, Scott Powers of The Athletic gave Chicago a B+ grade for their moves. Below is the snippet talking about why he gave them this mark:
“The Blackhawks were sellers once again. Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson added a few more early-round picks to his cupboard by acquiring first– and second-round selections from the Edmonton Oilers. That was beyond expectations heading into this week. Those draft picks now give the Blackhawks five first-round picks and seven second-round picks over the next three years. Of course, that’s on top of the 11 first-round picks and five second-round picks he’s made over the previous four years. That means the Blackhawks will potentially make 16 first-round selections and 12 second-rounders in seven years. The rebuild hinges on the scouting and development of all those picks.”
The Blackhawks are set in terms of having draft capital, with the next seven years being extremely loaded with capital. Whether the team decides to use those picks or deal some away in exchange for players is yet to be seen, but it will be intriguing to see how general manager Kyle Davidson is able to reshape the roster in the not-so-distant future.
