This weekend, the MSHSL State Hockey Tournament brought the energy, athleticism, and, of course, infamous hockey hair to Grand Casino Arena. In tradition, Pulltab Sports, headed by John King, ran down the list of this year’s Minnesota State High School All Hockey Hair Team. The video raises money for the Hendrickson Foundation, a Minnesota organization working to make hockey accessible and inclusive for all.

Themed for the recent Olympics in Milan, the “hair-a-lympics” had the boys “flow for gold,” and shouted out skate-ups, buzzed and bleached heads, painted designs, and the classic hockey hair, which salon pro community behindthechair.com says is making a comeback on and off the rink.

The dye jobs this year were plentiful; lots of bleach—King suggesting Warroad should name their band “Clorox and Caterpillars”—while the shaved heads lent themselves to tiger strips (Delano), an an Avatar-inspired arrow, and all sorts of red and green nonsense from Mankato West. “It’s clear the ’Kato boys’ pregame meal is Fruity Pebbles,” King joked.

Other honorable mentions included the Hibbing vintage flow, the Delano coach for his timeless locks, and the girls’ tournament side for their creative skate-ups and epic intros. The “salad secret service” won the manager category, while for the first time in Hair Tourney history, a ref received some recognition for his coiffure.

The 2026 All Hockey Hair Team is made up of vintage mullets (a true ’80’s cut, as opposed to the currently trendy indie mullet), bleached and natural golden flow and Moorhead’s “Sweet Potato Fry,” i.e. a spud with a sweet ginger mullet.

Hibbing’s “F1B,” took the gold with his doodle-like mop of tight ringlets, which bounced with every step and deserved, with every strand of shaggy blond hair, the gold.
