BOSTON – It took some time for the scoring to start, but the Boston Bruins (36-22-6) picked up a 2-1 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings (26-23-15) on Tuesday night at the TD Garden.
The Bruins’ home winning streak is now at 13.
Mason Lohrei (7) scored in the third period, but Charlie McAvoy (7) stole the spotlight. After leaving the game in the second period, he returned for the third and scored the overtime winner.
Jeremy Swayman made 14 saves in his 25th win of the season, tying a career high.
Neither team scored in the first two periods.
However, Fraser Minten came close twice. He hit the post in the final two minutes of the first period and again in the second.
After the first period, the shots were 5-3 in favor of the Kings.
The Kings only took two shots in the second period. The Bruins got nine off, and held a 12-8 advantage through 40 minutes.
In the second period, Nikita Zadorov (6-foot-7) dropped the gloves for a fight with Samuel Helenius (6-foot-6).

After the fight, Charlie McAvoy went down the tunnel after taking another puck up high.
At the 8:22 mark of the third period, Mason Lohrei opened the scoring. He received a feed from Hampus Lindholm and snapped the puck into the top-right corner.
The goal marked Lohrei’s seventh of the season and first since January 17 in Chicago.
However, with six minutes remaining, Drew Doughty tied the game. His slap shot redirected off Elias Lindholm’s skate and into the net.
Much like the last seven times the Kings have been in Boston, this game needed overtime.
It took just 39 seconds for Charlie McAvoy’s game-winning goal. Mark Kastelic played a long outlet pass to David Pastrnak, who found McAvoy in stride. McAvoy pulled it to his backhand and beat Kuemper.
The Bruins will look to defend their home win streak when they play the San Jose Sharks (30-26-6) on Thursday night.
