SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Utah Mammoth forward Nick Schmaltz signed on for another eight years in the Beehive State.
The team announced Monday it signed an eight-year contract extension with Schmaltz with an average annual value of $8 million.
Schmaltz, 30, has registered 24-35-59 through 65 games this season and ranks second on the team in goals, assists and points. His six power-play goals are tied for the team lead. He has also scored two hat-tricks so far in the 2025-26 season in the home wins against San Jose on Oct. 17 and Vancouver on Feb. 2.
The Madison, Wisconsin native said there was “never a doubt” that he wanted to play the rest of his career in Utah and he is thrilled to sign on for an eight-year extension.

“We have a great core of players and I know we can do some special things together here in Utah,” said Schmaltz. “We have a very bright future, and I am thankful to Ryan and Ashley Smith for wanting me to be a part of the group that will one day bring a Stanley Cup to Utah and grateful for the incredible fan base who always show up to support the Mammoth.”
Utah Mammoth Governor Ryan Smith said Schmaltz is an important part of the building momentum surrounding the team.
“Utah is becoming a true destination in the NHL, and Nick’s long-term commitment reflects the excitement around what we’re building here,” said Smith. “We’re thrilled about the role he’ll continue to play on the ice and in our community.”
Mammoth’s General Manager Bill Armstrong called Schmaltz a “tremendous player” who deserved the long-term contract extension.
Throughout his career, Schmaltz has played 653 career NHL games across the Utah Mammoth, Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks since the 2016-17 season. He appeared in all 82 games during Utah’s inaugural season and established single-season career highs in assists and points at 43 and 63, respectively.
Schmaltz is one of only three Mammoth players to play in all 147 games in franchise history, alongside Ian Cole and Jack McBain.
