The Edmonton Oilers faced growing criticism after goaltender Tristan Jarry struggled in a 7-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
Jarry stopped 20 of 27 shots as Dallas controlled the game early. The Stars scored three goals in the first period and added two more in each of the final periods to seal the blowout win. The loss dropped Jarry’s season numbers to a 3.40 goals-against average and an .883 save percentage across 29 games.

Following the game, several analysts and media figures questioned Edmonton’s decision to acquire Jarry in an early December trade. Hockey writer Darren Haynes criticized the trade on X.

“Tristan Jarry was waived and sent to the minors 14 months ago by Pittsburgh,” Haynes wrote. “Him not providing NHL-calibre goaltending this season really shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise.”
The trade remains controversial because the Oilers sent Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a second-round pick to acquire Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Other hockey personalities also voiced frustration after the loss. Online commentator DJ Bean suggested the team should move on from Jarry.
“Gotta waive Jarry and bring up Pickard,” Bean wrote.
Karman Gill from the “Puckin Around” podcast was even more direct in his criticism.

“Jarry should never play another game for the Oilers again. My goodness,” Gill posted.
Dallas dominated the matchup with a strong offensive performance. Jason Robertson recorded two goals and two assists, while Jamie Benn also scored twice. Jake Oettinger made 30 saves for the win.
Despite the defeat, Edmonton remains in the playoff race with a 32-26-8 record. Captain Connor McDavid leads the league with 110 points, and Evan Bouchard tops NHL defensemen with 76 points.
However, continued struggles in goal remain a major concern as the Oilers push toward the postseason.
