The Big Ten does not have enough programs sponsoring women’s hockey to have a conference of its own, but there is a great chance the Big Ten will be well-represented in the women’s Frozen Four. In addition to Penn State, the No. 3 seed, playing in a regional championship, No. 1 seed Ohio State, No. 2 seed Wisconsin, and No. 4 seed Minnesota are all playing in their respective regional championships on Saturday, and all four Big Ten schools are playing at home.
Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota all play in the WCHA. Penn State plays in the Atlantic Hockey League. A Big Ten school has won the women’s NCAA title each year since 2019 with Wisconsin and Ohio State combining for each of the last six titles. No school from the Atlantic Hockey League has won the national championship.
