The Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild are scheduled to play Sunday night in Minnesota.

The game might not happen as scheduled, though, due to a rare potential for a hockey weather postponement amid a big winter storm.

The forecast calls for a major storm to hit the Minnesota area this weekend.

The Maple Leafs are playing on Saturday night in Buffalo against the Sabres. They’d then have to travel to Minnesota.

The Athletic’s Michael Russo reported on Saturday:

“(Wild) in contact with the NHL and #mapleleafs about tomorrow’s game. A decision will be made later today; depends if it’s safe for Leafs to get into Minnesota late tonight as they play in Buffalo.”

The game would have to be played at some point, you would assume, but it’s not clear how a reschedule might work.

The Maple Leafs are only playing for draft positioning at this point at the end of a nightmare season.

The Wild are seeking big goals at the end of the year, and every win they can get to secure the best possible seed is an important one.

Hockey is obviously played in the winter, but the NHL is indoors, so weather doesn’t impact things all that often.

If this game is postponed, that would be rare. And it would create just a little headache for both teams as they head down the stretch of the season.
