Patrik Allvin has head coach Adam Foote behind him, and Vancouver Canucks ownership now appears fully committed to the long rebuild unfolding inside the organization.

That kind of alignment hasn’t always existed in Vancouver.

According to Canucks insider Irfaan Gaffar, ownership has given management full support to take the long road. Internally, the belief is it could take at least five years before the club becomes a true contender again.

For a franchise that spent years chasing quick fixes, that’s a dramatic shift.

Previous attempts to reset the roster ended with friction. When Mike Gillis pushed toward a rebuild years ago, he lost his job. Trevor Linden later tried to steer the team in that direction and eventually became the odd man out.

Linden admitted this weekend that the current approach actually surprised him.

He recalled arriving in 2014 and quickly realizing the roster had structural problems. The core group still carried reputation around the league, but several key players were already deep into the later stages of their careers.

The standings finally reflect the reset

Now the standings tell the story of a team that has fully accepted the rebuild.

The Vancouver Canucks sit 32nd in the NHL with 48 points through 66 games, a position that puts the franchise on track for a premium draft slot.

The goal differential shows how difficult the season has been. Vancouver sits at -75, the lowest mark in the league.

That slide in the standings may actually accelerate the long-term plan.

A finish near the bottom gives the Canucks a legitimate chance at a top-three selection, something the franchise hasn’t secured since 1999.

Management has also loaded up on future assets.

The club currently holds 10 selections in the 2026 NHL Draft, including two first-round picks, while also stockpiling nine picks in both the 2027 and 2028 drafts.

For Allvin and the front office, that draft capital becomes the backbone of the rebuild.

The real test now sits behind the bench and in the scouting department. Foote must guide a young locker room through a difficult stretch while management turns those picks into NHL players.

But for the first time in years, the direction appears clear across the entire organization.
