In the third game of a three-game West Coast trip, no overtime was required for the Philadelphia Flyers to complete the task at hand. They took care of business with three goals in the third period of a 4-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday afternoon to sweep the road trip.
How It Happened
Neither team scored in the first period despite three power plays between the two. Shots were even at six through 20 minutes.
The Flyers opened the scoring early in the second, as Owen Tippett scored his 24th of the season at 2:26. The Sharks tied the game at 13:10 of the second with a power-play goal by Dmitry Orlov.
The Flyers took the lead again early in the third, scoring on the power play. Christian Dvorak finished off a nice passing play on a zone entry for his 14th goal of the season. In the final two minutes, Travis Sanheim and Noah Cates added empty-net goals to seal the result.

⭐ Owen Tippett — From the jump, Tippett had his legs and was all over the place. He scored the opening goal and easily could have had more than that with the scoring chances he was able to generate.
⭐⭐ Dan Vladar — Steady once again, Vladar kept things together, especially on the penalty kill, as the Flyers held on to a one-goal lead in the third. That’s two big wins for Vladar on the road trip, as he continues his career season.
⭐⭐⭐ Christian Dvorak — Dvorak’s power-play goal put the Flyers ahead for good, and he added an assist on an empty-net goal for a multi-point game while breaking the 40-point mark.
The Takeaway
What a road trip for the Flyers, who sweep the three California teams and grab six points to remain alive in the playoff hunt. It may still be a longshot, but the Flyers have announced their presence in the race as things get down to the final 13 games of the season. There’s still a lot of work and a lot of help needed to make this run complete, but give the Flyers credit for not going quietly and continuing to get performances from key players who have been among their best and most consistent all season.
