WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Colorado Avalanche is getting its captain back.
Gabe Landeskog will return to the lineup Sunday afternoon against the Washington Capitals, coach Jared Bednar said. Landeskog has missed the past seven games after taking a Cale Makar shot to the groin area March 6 against the Dallas Stars.
Landeskog missed three full regular seasons with knee issues, but returned last year during the playoffs. He played every game this season until crashing into the net and end boards Jan. 4 against the Florida Panthers.

The Avs are 36-4-7 when Landeskog plays this season and 9-9-3 when he does not. Colorado has also been without at least one of Martin Necas, Devon Toews or Artturi Lehkonen in every game that Landeskog has missed.
Landeskog has nine goals and 29 points in 47 games this season.
