The Calgary Flames (29-34-7) defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning (43-21-5) 4-3 in overtime on Sunday night in Calgary. With the loss, the Lightning finished a four-game trip through Seattle and Western Canada with a record of 3-0-1.
Ryan McDonagh scored at the 7:25 mark of the first period to get the scoring started for Tampa Bay, but the Flames had an answer. Calgary got goals from Victor Olofsson and Morgan Frost in the first to take a 2-1 lead, before Mikael Backlund scored early in the second to give the Flames a 3-1 lead.
Darren Raddysh scored at the 11:47 mark of the second to pull the Lightning within 3-2, which would remain the score until late in the third period. A tthe 15:40 mark of the third period, Pontus Holmberg scored to tie the game 3-3, which would force overtime.
Ryan Strome would be the overtime hero for Calgary, scoring twenty-six seconds into overtime to lift the Flames to a 4-3 win. Jonas Johansson got the start in net for Tampa Bay, who was playing in the second game of a back-to-back after beating the Oilers in Edmonton 5-2 on Saturday night. Johansson saved 25 of the 29 shots he faced in net.
The Lightning now return home for a seven-game homestand beginning with a game against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night. Puck drop between the Lightning and Wild is scheduled for 7:30 PM on Saturday night at Benchmark International Arena.
