In a contest against a very tough opponent, the Caps put together what was a pretty solid defensive effort to slow down the Avs’ potent attack and hang with the best team in the league…minus a few little stumbles along the way.
Plus: The Avs’ power play is almost as bad as the Caps’ power play, but good job by the Caps’ penalty killers to make them look even worse.
Minus: The first 10 minutes of the third period were a comedy of errors that no one found particularly funny, with Logan Thompson – who otherwise was great, again – turning over the puck and gifting the Avs a goal and then Cole Hutson – who has been excellent to start his young career – being unable to corral a puck that resulted in a go-ahead goal for Colorado. Rough start after 40 solid minutes.
Caps Player of the Game: Justin Sourdif (and his whole line) had a very good game, scoring what was the lone tally through the first two periods.
