Late-March is a great time of year for hockey fans. The playoffs are right around the corner, and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) newest squad in Utah is looking to make some noise in the playoffs, which begin in two weeks.

I just returned to Twin Falls from a trip to Salt Lake City to check out a hockey game between the Utah Mammoth and the Anaheim Ducks, two teams that will likely face each other in the playoffs. The Ducks ended up winning 4-1 this past Friday (March 20).

The Delta Center in Salt Lake City is a great place to catch a concert or game, and is also home to the Utah Jazz. I had been to the venue on previous occasions to see the Smashing Pumpkins and Killers perform, but this was my first time getting to see the Mammoth live.

The 2025-26 Utah Mammoth team is led by captain Clayton Keller, who’s a stud. The team joined the NHL at the start of the 2024-25 season after the Arizona Coyotes moved to the Beehive State and were re-branded as the Utah Hockey Club. The Mammoth, which became the team’s name this season, are currently 37-28 and in the Central Division.
