Pittsburgh Penguins winger Anthony Mantha was not on the ice for practice Wednesday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The team announced he is out on a day-to-day basis because of a lower-body injury.
Also not on the ice were forwards Evgeni Malkin and Blake Lizotte.
Mantha, who missed most of last season after having ACL knee surgery, is having a banner year, including a career-high 26 goals and 53 points. He has played in all 71 Penguins games. He played 18:08 with no points Tuesday in the Penguins’ 6-2 loss to Colorado.
Malkin has missed one game because of a suspected hand injury and is listed as day-to-day. Lizotte, a driving force on the fourth line, is out for a projected tree more weeks because of an upper-body injury.
The Penguins play Thursday at Ottawa. Coach Dan Muse said Mantha will travel to Ottawa, but Malkin will not.
