WASHINGTON (7News) — Visitors to the Capital One Arena may see some changes as the arena undergoes major changes while it is closed for the summer.
Capital One will be closed for 17 weeks until the next scheduled event, but construction to improve visitors’ experiences will continue until 2027 or 2028, officials said.
The arena said they will install a “veil” roof with programmable lighting based on event type, and the design will be “New DC” – inclusive, modern, and elevated.

Officials said they plan to emphasize accessibility and a “Street to Seat” fan experience. They are also planning direct access inside the building from the Metro.
Fans can expect a 30% increase in restrooms around the arena, a new food hall and 65% more concession points, said Capital One.
The arena also said it is building 10 ultra-luxury suites that would give up to 20 guests a private lobby, elevator, tasting room, lounge, and private restrooms.

For the Washington Capitals, Capital One Arena said it plans to build ergonomic lockers with custom storage and drying systems, hot and cold tubs, as well as compression therapy zones.

The arena said the Washington Wizards will get a new lounge, weight room, hydrotherapy pools, massage areas and direct connection from locker rooms to the floor.
Capital One said that they have 400 construction workers and plan to expand to 800. Capital One will also be hosting the NCAA Men’s Sweet 16 in 2026.
