The Colorado Avalanche look to tie this season series up in the finale against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

The Colorado Avalanche go for their third win in a row on Tuesday night in a rematch against the Pittsburgh Penguins in little more than a week on Tuesday night. These two played on March 16 in Denver, CO, and there was very little that went right for the Avs. The Penguins won 7-2 in a rout, with Pittsburgh scoring four goals alone in the first period. Colorado would score both of their goals in that period, but couldn’t replicate any more offense. Evgeni Malkin scored twice and added an assist, while Erik Karlsson also added three points with a goal and two assists. Colorado would go on to lose three straight and four of its last five games before winning back-to-back recently. Pittsburgh has lost two of its last three games since that matchup with the Avalanche. Pittsburgh now has the chance to sweep Colorado at home tonight. Despite playing on the road, the Avalanche are the -162 favorites to tie this season series up in the finale.

The Avalanche won back-to-back games by beating the Washington Capitals on the road in overtime on Sunday. The Capitals scored the first goal of the game, and Colorado didn’t get on the board until the first minute of the third period with a goal from Gabriel Landeskog. Nicolas Roy gave the Avs the lead five minutes later, but Alexander Ovechkin tied the game on the power play late in the third. It was the future Hall of Famer’s 1000th NHL goal, including the regular season and playoffs. But that set up an opportunity for Brock Nelson, who scored the game-winner for Colorado 1:22 into overtime for the extra point. The Avalanche swept the season series 2-0 in the process.

Pittsburgh is coming off a lopsided 5-1 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes at home on Sunday. Pittsburgh had just 19 shots on goal, with the Hurricanes scoring the first four goals of the game. The Penguins didn’t score for almost 15 minutes into the third period on a goal from Egor Chinakhov. Carolina scored three times on the power play in what turned out to be the difference to win the season series 3-1.
