Colorado Hockey Now
The Avalanche have surprisingly struggled at home over the last two and a half months. I’m not sure it’s a major concern, but it’s definitely something worth noting. On Saturday, Colorado fell to the Winnipeg Jets for its fourth straight loss at Ball Arena.
In that game, head coach Jared Bednar continued to experiment with the line combinations. I talked to him about this postgame to get a better idea of what he’s trying to accomplish.

Detroit Hockey Now: Leave it to the Red Wings to come up huge on Friday against a tough Buffalo Sabres team, only to disappoint the following night in a must-win game against a team chasing them in the standings. The Flyers are now very much alive in the Eastern Conference wildcard race.
San Jose Hockey Now: Big win for the Sharks, bad loss for the Blue Jackets, in a game that had wildcard race implications in both conferences.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins didn’t have Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin against the Stars, who welcomed Mikko Rantanen back into the lineup. The superstar forward was enough to get Dallas back in the winning column.
Boston Hockey Now: Several teams lost in the East. But the Bruins weren’t one of them.
