Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby return to practice.Sidney Crosby steps onto the ice, joining Evgeni Malkin.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and fellow center Evgeni Malkin, who have been out because of injuries, skated at practice Sunday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Crosby missed Saturday’s loss against Dallas after leaving Thursday’s win at Ottawa because of a lower-body injury. He leads the Penguins with 28 goals and 64 points in 61 games.

Malkin has missed the past three games because of a suspected hand injury. He has 15 goals, 52 points in 51 games.

Crosby and Malkin are listed as day-to-day. They were wearing black (presumably contact allowed) jerseys at practice and appeared to be full participants in drills.

On the flip side, forwards Bryan Rust and Noel Acciari were not on the ice for practice.

The Penguins are scheduled to fly to New York later Sunday for a huge Metropolitan Division showdown Monday against the Islanders.

We hope to get more of an update after practice.
