The Florida Panthers (36-35-3) will shoot for the season-series sweep when they face the Boston Bruins (43-24-8) tonight at Amerant Bank Arena in suburban Sunrise.
Florida exploded for five first period goals and cruised to 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators to end a three-game losing streak. Matthew Tkachuk racked up a goal and three assists; Carter Verhaeghe scored twice and added a helper; and Seth Jones tied a franchise record for defensemen with three assists in the opening frame. Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves and hit ten wins for the first time, and Noah Gregor. A.J. Greer and Mackie Samoskevich also lit the lamp for the Cats.
Whle the Panthers were busy thrashing the Senators, the Bruins beat the Dallas Stars by the same score at TD Garden to extend its winning streak to four games. Viktor Arvidsson notched a hat trick and Marat Khusnutdinov, Elias Lindholm and Henri Jokiharju also scored for the Bruins. Leading scorer David Pastrnak assisted on three goals and Joonas Korpisalo stopped 13 of 16 shots faced. Red-hot Boston (7-1-2) has collected at least a point in nine of its last ten games.
