CARDBIZ: OTTAWA (April 5, 2026) The Ottawa Senators’ top defensive prospect Carter Yakemchuk, drafted 7th overall in 2024, made his NHL debut on March 24, 2026, after a wave of injuries sidelined Thomas Chabot, Dennis Gilbert, Nick Jensen, Jake Sanderson, and Lassi Thomson.
In his debut against the Detroit Red Wings, Yakemchuk delivered a breakout performance — scoring a goal, adding an assist, finishing +2, and earning First Star honors in a 3–2 victory.
Head Coach Travis Green praised his poise and offensive instincts, calling him “a special player” capable of creating plays from the blue line. Veteran center Lars Eller added that Yakemchuk “looked like an NHL player… a good NHL player.”
Collectors immediately took notice. His official Upper Deck Young Guns rookie card is still months away, but the market for his pre‑rookie cardboard has already surged.
Yakemchuk appeared in four NHL games, averaging around 14 minutes per night, before entering the NHL concussion protocol following a March 31 game against Florida. No timetable has been announced.
Despite the setback, demand for his early cards continues to climb.

Yakemchuk’s concussion‑protocol pause may have temporarily cooled mainstream interest, but his debut proved he’s NHL‑ready and capable of driving offense from the blue line. This quiet period is exactly when collectors should be accumulating his Team Canada, CHL, and Belleville cards before his Young Guns rookie card inevitably sends his market into overdrive.
