Play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels broke the news of the unexpected labor on Sportnet’s ‘Hockey Night In Canada‘ broadcast of the Saturday NHL clash.
Michaels said on air: “Breaking news: We have word that someone has gone into labor here tonight.
“There’s a baby being born on the seventh floor at Rogers Place as we speak.
“So someone’s going to have a great story to tell.

“It would be nice to have the mother join us on ‘After Hours’ to describe what’s happened.
“But that could be asking a bit much.”
But it won’t be a night to remember for all the Edmonton fans after their team lost 5-1.
Jack Eichel totaled three points with three assists, while Brett Howden scored a goal with two assists.
Evan Bouchard scored the lone goal for the Oilers.
The Vegas outfit are 3-0 since bringing in veteran coach John Tortorella instead of Bruce Cassidy.
And they could face the Oilers again in the second round of the play-offs if both sides win their first-round series.
The Oilers have not commented on the condition of the mother or the child.
And while the new mother did not join that evening’s broadcast, there are still five games on Edmonton’s regular schedule before the NHL play-offs.
It’s not even the first time this decade a fan has gone into labor mid-game.
Back in 2023, a relative of Cleveland Browns star David Bell gave birth inside Lucas Oil Stadium during a clash with the Indianapolis Colts.
The mom-to-be went into labor as she arrived at the ground – FOUR days before her due date.
And back in 2015, a baby was delivered inside Petco Park during a San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres game.
Incredibly, the delivery was handled by an on-site nurse who was also a qualified midwife, near the Padres’ team store.
