The Avalanche lost another game at home. How much does it matter? The Panthers took another beating from the Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers are helping us possibly get a dream scenario for the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Also, a shocking firing and new coach hire on Long Island.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — April 6.

The Avalanche gave up a hat trick at home for the second consecutive game. This one came with less than three minutes left in regulation to hand them another loss at Ball Arena.
Given where they are in the standings an the way they played against Dallas on Saturday, I’m curious as to how much these losses to teams outside of the playoffs even matter. Read my story below and let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
And here’s the part I really don’t like having to do.

The playoffs are less than two weeks away, and having playoff access on the road means better coverage, more interesting stories, and in-depth analysis.
With that, CHN will be adding a “tip jar” to the bottom of each story soon. It’s an opportunity for readers to donate to CHN to help cover travel costs so I can be there for those games. You can donate via PAYPAL BY CLICKING HERE or VENMO BY CLICKING HERE if you’re interested in helping out. Thanks in advance to all of our readers, whether you’re donating or not. We appreciate every one of you.
I do want to take a moment to also thank everyone who has already donated, and to the many who pitched in last year, too.

Around The NHL
New York Islanders: In a Sunday morning shocker, the Islanders fired Patrick Roy and hired Pete DeBoer. Roy’s Islanders lost four straight games in regulation and are now ninth in the East because of that. It’s now up to DeBoer to get them back in the playoff picture.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: I would’ve never imagined six months ago that we’d see the Penguins absolutely smash the Florida Panthers on consecutive days. Pittsburgh is likely heading to the playoffs, and Florida isn’t.

Philly Hockey Now: Now here’s the fun part. Could we actually get a Flyers-Penguins series? How fun would that be? The Flyers are certainly doing their part to help make that a reality.
Detroit Hockey Now: Another day, and another hilariously bad loss for the Red Wings to ruin what could’ve been a strong weekend to help secure their positioning in the playoffs.
Boston Hockey Now: The Bruins were glad to get a point. That’ll help separate them from all the teams battling for the second wildcard spot.

Forever Blueshirts: Ideally, the Rangers shouldn’t be winning as many games as they have lately. But how about a one-sided victory over the Washington Capitals to knock them further away from a playoff spot?
