The move Tuesday morning likely signals some bad news for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as the team officially recalled top goalie prospect Sergei Murashov from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Through a team spokesperson Sunday, the team said they wanted to recall Murashov Sunday, but could not get him to Pittsburgh in time for the 3 p.m. start against the Florida Panthers. They instead recalled goaltender Taylor Gauthier from the Wheeling Nailers, just as he entered a local church for Easter Sunday services.

The recalls are necessary because Stuart Skinner suffered an unconfirmed facial injury Saturday when he was hit by an errant puck. The team has not confirmed this to be the injury, but Gauthier’s recall and now Murashov’s recall indicate that Skinner will probably miss some time. Arturs Silovs started both games last weekend, beating Florida on Saturday and again Sunday.

Murashov, 22, has played in five NHL games this season, posting a 1-1-2 record with an .897 save percentage. In the AHL, Murashov has made 35 appearances, posting a 23-8-3 record with a 2.13 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

The Penguins return to practice Tuesday morning, but will do so at PPG Paints Arena. Subequent updates will be published as a separate story.
