Coach, and I mean, we’ve kind of gone at this a bit, but how does this kind of game happen at this point in the year?

well, we, we, we, we started exactly doing what we wanted to do.

We see Messag when they scored the first goal, and they got life.

you know, we played the period, period we want.

Couldn’t get any, any action around the net with second opportunities, and, their goalie played well.

And, you know, it was, maybe would’ve got some excitement scoring one, but we, we didn’t get there.

This is a team that’s– you’ve come back plenty throughout the year, whether you’ve had good starts, bad starts, or anything between.

Is there any sort of loss of confidence you feel like with these guys that they, that they haven’t been able to get over the hump like they had?

Well, I think that, you know, scoring goals, I mean, we, we have enough opportunity.

Our power play had some looks tonight that, you know, that could’ve got us knighted offensively.

you know, and then around the net there were just, eh, one of those nights where the goalie, you know, was a goalie win for them and, was a big factor.

But I, I, I don’t, I still think there’s enough ways we’re generating enough offense to win hockey games.

You know, it’s basically, again, you know, we can’t let them score at that rate.

Six games in a row without a win, just one point during that stretch.

Is there anything major that you think needs to change?

Well, we lost a couple at the beginning of it that, were like disappointing losses that were, you know, the points were in our fingertips, and we let it get away.

our last couple games, you know, it’s, you know, I would say you could– the last couple of games, there’s parts in it where it’s exactly w– how we wanted to play.

But, you know, we were seeing teams that have to win the game, all right?

We have to win games here.

That’s where we’re at.

Is it a mentality thing or an execution thing for these guys, for this group?

well, I, I, I think that, you know, executing, I mean, we know how to play hockey.

We know how to do the right things, and, and there’s no excuses whether, whether we’re shifting lines or personnel or, or opportunity.

It’s a, you know, I think we all know how to play, and, it’s putting it all together.

It’s just a matter of getting it done.

During this slump, both sides, special teams have struggled, especially the power play.

I think you guys are two for twenty-four.

Do you see anything to build off of there?

Anything that, any kind of positive momentum on either side, I guess?

Well, on the power play, you know, tonight was a night that, after we’ll, we’ll talk and sort it out, but, that was not good enough.

I mean, I mean, they got a good penalty kill.

they’re very aggressive.

and, we didn’t get, any offense, and our team game didn’t pick up any momentum off it as well.

So it kind of stymied us in that area, and, and our penalty kill is, you know, certain nights, you know, it’s been decent.

you know, that wasn’t, what hurt us tonight, BK.

When the streak does kind of continue, and, and you do get that game, as you said, where you get the possession that you wanted, you get those kind of chances, how does that sort of affect the process of it all to, you know, with the guys, believing that side of it?

you know, I think that when you’re, you’re in one, I mean, you go through it.

We’ve gone through one, and, and, and how we came out of that one was basically, hey, playing ugly, winning ugly is basically simplifying where you don’t have to think you gotta score a goal every game and every shift.

And, you know, we got behind and, you know, I think we got a little loose in the period, period, in that second period.

But at the same time, you know, we played the first period exactly the way we wanted.

Got behind, there’s still lots of hockey left, and we’ve proven that all year that, you know, we still got something to get back into the game, and we found, we’ve found a way to win a lot of games, in a comparable fashion had we had scored earlier than, you know, these late power plays where, where nothing to do with- Good thinking we’re coming back.

you got San Jose coming in.

I’m gonna ask you the question that thirty other coaches haven’t answered.

How do you kinda contain him and, and make the rest of the team beat you there?

Well, we, we did a number on him last game.

When I say that, he got four points and he had the puck, and every time he touched the puck, it was in our net.

So let’s deny him the puck as best we can, and, we got a day and a half to talk about how we wanna do it.

I’ve seen, eleven-seven before, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen ten-eight before.

Just curious about the, the lineup construction for tonight.

well, we got, Minty was, was, was, we’re gonna see how he was gonna handle it, and then he, he, he ended up being fine.

And, you know, Zelly, was an option, if things, to go back.

And, you know, Marzy’s, I mean, that line was, was, was all right for us.

I mean, kinda like all year long.

I think that’s one line that’s been s- a staple for us as far as the predictability, the usefulness of that line and getting the job done and playing the right way.

With the way this team has kind of played or succeeded at times this year, is, is that sort, that kind of grind-it-out game that you’re looking for even, attainable by a group, you know, with four games left in the season to kinda change that mentality that drastically?

Well, you’re winning a shift, you’re winning a period.

We, I mean, we, we’re gonna have to fine-tune it more than, the next opponent, the next game, and the next shift and period.

So it’s a, you know, find a way to stop the bleeding and, win a period or win a shift and, you know, get some momentum off of, little, little wins.
