The UVM Catamounts helped to raise thousands of dollars during their hockey season for Special Olympics Vermont.The young athletes got to stop by the Gutterson Fieldhouse Friday for the “Goals For Good” check presentation. Community Bank and UVM Athletics donate $75 for every goal that the men’s and women’s hockey teams score throughout their seasons.”Every time we score a goal, it’s obviously going up on the scoreboard, but it also goes to a good cause,” said UVM goalie Connor Mackenzie. “It motivates our team to score as well.”This year, they raised more than $11,000.Organizers say this will make a huge difference for Special Olympics athletes. “The hockey players are awesome. They are so good to our athletes. We always look forward to the game that we get to come to and have our athletes shoot goals at one of the intermissions. Those will be happening June 6 and June 7 at Saint Michael’s College.
