The Stars have provided some worrying injury updates.

The Dallas Stars have already been confirmed to be playing the division rival Minnesota Wild in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a matchup that fans were given a preview of on Thursday evening, which resulted in a 5-4 Stars win over the Wild at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Right now, home ice advantage has yet to be decided, as both teams remain very close in the standings and are separated by only four points; right now, the series would begin in Dallas, but the Wild still have time to have a say in that.

But in the meantime, the Stars have announced some troubling injury news that could cause some fans to begin worrying about how the Wild could take advantage of the potential key absence.

The Dallas Stars Lost Defenseman Miro Heiskanen During Their 5-4 Win Over The Wild

The Stars may have beaten the Wild, but it came at a cost in the form of an injury to top defenseman Miro Heiskanen.

Near the end of the first period, Heiskanen was hit by Wild forward Ryan Hartman, during which his leg appeared to bend awkwardly. While he skated off the ice under his own power, he was seen going to the dressing room with the aid of a trainer, and his night was soon declared to be over.

Now, the Stars have announced that the Finnish blue liner will be undergoing an MRI through general manager Jim Nill.

“We’ll get a better read here. We’re kind of just going week by week with him and seeing where he’s at,” Nill said of Heiskanen undergoing an MRI.

So far this season for the Stars, Heiskanen has scored nine goals while adding another 53 assists in the 78 games he’s played. He’s averaged just under 26 minutes of playing time per game and has also registered a plus-nine rating.

Following the game, Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan didn’t have much of an update on his injured players, saying the news could go either way.

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know [how things are going to be in the postseason]. But any time there’s an injury, especially to, you know, top guys, it’s concerning,” he said.

“But we’ll see. We’ll see where it plays out. We could get great news tomorrow, or we could get bad news. I’m just, I’m not sure where we’re going to be.”

The Stars also missed star forward Mikko Rantanen for several games because of an injury he sustained playing for Team Finland in the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics.

Despite their multiple injuries they’ve sustained this season, the Stars have demonstrated that their depth has been able to withstand the absence of so many key players as they continue to battle for as high a seed in the standings as they can before the start of the playoffs later this month.
