The Michigan Wolverines season came to an end on Thursday night in double overtime with a 4-3 loss to the Denver Pioneers. The Wolverines season being over means that players who are drafted or eligible for free agency can sign their ELC’s. Tonight, forward T.J. Hughes signed an ELC with the Colorado Avalanche, which is a one-year ELC. The ELC started in 2026-27; he will play the rest of the 2025-26 season with the Colorado Eagles. Hughes will have a chance to make his case with the Eagles as they are about to enter the Calder Cup Playoffs as the second seed in the Pacific Division.
Hughes was a Hobey Baker finalist, losing out to Max Plante (Detroit Red Wings), who took home the award last night. In 40 games this season, he has 57 points on 22 goals and 35 assists. He’s a +14 with five power-play goals and four game-winning goals. He’s second in the country in points, tenth in goals, and third in assists.

Hughes’ first season with the Wolverines came in the 2022-23 season., In 39 games that season he had 36 points on 13 goals and 23 assists; he was a plus-six. In year two in 41 games he had 48 points on 19 goals and 29 assists; he was a +11. Hughes’ third season at Michigan, he appeared in 36 gamrs recording 38 points on 15 goals and 23 assists; he was a plus-five.
