Head-to-Head: Stars 1-0 Maple Leafs
How to Watch:
U.S. TV: Victory+; ESPN+
Canada TV: Amazon Prime Video
Time: 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
Our final Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions has the Dallas Stars preparing for the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs. These two teams are going in different directions as the Stars are preparing for the Minnesota Wild in the first round. The Maple Leafs are preparing to make tee times and for an offseason of uncertainty.
Dallas could see a different-looking lineup with its playoff position and seed already determined. Head coach Glen Gulutzan could decide to rest some players and give skaters from AHL Texas a shot with nothing on the line.
Toronto was one of the first teams eliminated and fired general manager Brad Treliving not too long ago. The future of several players and head coach Craig Berube could also be in question. There could be several players fighting for their respective jobs in this one.
Let’s take look at the statistics and storylines in our final edition of Monday Night Hockey on Prime-based NHL predictions.
The Stars Story
Dallas is coming into the game with home-ice advantage in the first round locked up. The Stars will finish in second place in a loaded and Central Division and battle the Wild in the opening round. However, Dallas isn’t taking its foot off the gas. The Stars have three consecutive victories entering this matchup.
Jake Oettinger is the projected starter in this game. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. This game could be a chance for Oettinger to stay sharp before the season finale at the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night.
Jason Robertson is tied with Wyatt Johnston for first on the team in goals scored with 44. Howevdr, Robertson leads in assists (50) and points (94) so far this campaign.
The Maple Leafs Story
Toronto was supposed to be among the contending clubs in the Eastern Conference. However, injuries and inconsistent play have doomed the Leafs to being stuck in the basement of the Atlantic Division. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment will have some big decisions to make in the coming months.
Joseph Woll is listed as the projected starter for Toronto. Woll is hoping to end his season on a high note after a troubled season with a 3.34 goals-against-average and .899 save percentage.
William Nylander has been one of the few bright spots in the lineup for Toronto. However, injuries to him and Auston Matthews made things difficult for the Leafs this season. Nylander leads the club in assists (47) and points (75). However, John Tavares is tops in goals with 30.
Prediction
Keep an eye on the lineups before making any wager. Dallas has the better team on paper. However, the Stars could decide to rest players or give fewer minutes to the key players that do suit up. We also could see several different faces for the home team. However, Dallas should keep momentum going with a win.
Prediction: Stars win 5-3.
Best Bets
We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for the Stars versus the Maple Leafs is 5.5, and we like the over in this game.
As far as individual props go, take Roberston to get a goal for Dallas. On the Toronto side of things, go with Matthew Knies to get a point in this game.
