Northside continued its recent success against rival Washington with a 19-6 victory, highlighting a busy day of high school sports across eastern North Carolina.

Washington briefly took the lead in the fourth inning, but Northside responded with a strong fifth inning, scoring multiple runs to pull away. The Panthers sealed the win with a bases-clearing double and extended their winning streak to five games.

In other action, Martin County rolled past Southside in a run-rule victory after a dominant 12-run third inning. The Gators built an early lead and never looked back.

At South Central High School, nine student-athletes were recognized during a signing day ceremony, committing to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The group included athletes heading to programs such as Duke, North Carolina A&T, Chowan, Guilford College, Cape Fear Community College, Pitt Community College, Emory & Henry and Methodist.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Hurricanes closed out the NHL regular season with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. Carolina finished with 53 wins, just one shy of a franchise record, and will host the Ottawa Senators in the opening round of the playoffs.
