Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland commented on the team naming Adam Foote as their new Head Coach & that he’s looking forward to the 2025-26 season.Earlier this month, the Vancouver Canucks found their new Head Coach as the organization promoted Adam Foote to the role of bench boss starting next season and signed him to a three-year contract to keep him with the club until the end of the 2027-28 campaign. In the two weeks since the hiring of Adam Foote, there hasn’t been many comments from Vancouver Canucks players on the team’s decision until yesterday when Conor Garland, who’s entering the final year of his contract in 2025-26 opened up about playing for the former Stanley Cup champion.

On Thursday, Conor Garland, fresh off winning the gold medal at the 2025 IIHF World Championship and being named Player of the Game twice, was a guest on Canucks Brunch where he was asked about the Vancouver Canucks promoting Adam Foote, someone he’s very familiar with since he was brought in January 2023 as an assistant on Rick Tocchet’s staff.
Garland shared that he’s enjoyed having Adam Foote on the team’s bench as an assistant, adding that he’s a a smart guy and the team’s core and leadership group are very excited about the team’s decision.
“I really loved having him as an assistant, he’s a really good hockey mind, very smart. Won the cup as a player twice, won a gold medal. So exciting to have as a head. I know our group and our core pieces and leadership are excited about it.” Garland said.
After a tough 2024-25 season, which saw them miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Garland and the Canucks are looking to bounce back in a big way this fall and the 29-year-old believes they’re a hard team to play against, but they also need to find a way to produce more offensively during the 2025-26 season.
“I know that talking to guys, you know, that we were one of the harder teams to play against. People don’t enjoy playing against us, we’ve got a big D-core, two really good goalies, forwards that play in your face. Obviously we have to produce a lot more offence up front, and I’m one of those guys who have to do that, but you know, we can stick to our staples and how hard we defend and how hard we protect our house.” Garland said.
Garland, a native of Scituate, Massachusetts, is coming off a solid year for the Vancouver Canucks, registering 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists), 52 penalty minutes and was a minus-13 in 81 games.
There’s no doubt the Vancouver Canucks and Conor Garland’s camp will talk about a contract extension this summer, when he becomes eligible to put pen to paper on July 1st, in order keep him around for several years to come, as he’s a big part of the team’s forward group.
