The NHL playoff bracket got finalized Thursday night, the final night of the regular season, when the Edmonton Oilers easily beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-1 to clinch second place in the Pacific Division and a first-round matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, which will start on Monday.
The postseason will begin Saturday in Raleigh, N.C., where the Eastern Conference’s top seed, the Carolina Hurricanes, host the Ottawa Senators. That will be followed by the marquee first-round matchup between the Minnesota Wild and the Dallas Stars, two of the top three teams in the Western Conference standings. The teams split the regular-season series 2-2, with the Stars winning the most recent matchup, a 5-4 thriller on April 9.
Saturday’s playoff slate wraps up with an intrastate clash between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins, who are meeting in the postseason for the first time since 2018 (and for the eighth time ever).
The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche will host the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. The Avalanche set a franchise record with 121 points this season. In their previous best season, they went on to win it all in 2021-22.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens will also play Game 1 on Sunday in what should be a physical series. The last time the teams met on April 9, there were 126 combined penalty minutes. Later on Sunday, the Buffalo Sabres will host their first playoff game in 14 years, against the Boston Bruins, and the Pacific Division-winning Vegas Golden Knights will host the Utah Mammoth in their first playoff game since relocating.
Here’s the full schedule for all eight series.
