Since 2017, the wives and girlfriends of NHL players have worn custom jackets for the playoffs. The Stars’ newest jackets have gotten rave reviews online.
DALLAS — As the Stars embark on round one of the NHL playoffs, their wives and girlfriends are on hand to support them — and they’re doing it in style.Â
Kate Seguin, wife of Tyler Seguin, shared a video featuring the WAG’s newest playoff jacket, and it’s being recieved positively online. The leather and suede jacket has fringe and the words “Dallas Stars” embroidered on the back. The front features the player’s name and number.
The WAGs seem to have partnered with Lauren Kyle McDavid, the wife of Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, to design the jacket. McDavid owns Sports Club Atelier, which designs high-end sportswear. McDavid also designed the jackets for the Oilers, which are also made from suede and leather with an embroidered design on the front and back.Â

The Oilers knocked out the Stars in the Western Conference Finals last year, which marked the third year in a row that the Stars made it close to the NHL finals before losing the Western Conference.Â
The team is hoping to break that streak this year, and it is currently 1-1 in its opening series against the Minnesota Wild. If the Stars advance, they will face either the Los Angeles Kings or the Colorado Avalanche, who are first in the division.Â
The jacket tradition is believed to have started in 2017 when the WAGs of the Washington Capitals started wearing matching denim jackets with players’ names on the back of them during the playoffs. Ever since 2017, the playoff jacket tradition has grown and been popularized, too. On TikTok, users often rank and rate the best ones of the postseason.Â
In the competition for the best WAG jacket, the Stars appear to be in the lead this year; social media chatter seems to point to the Stars’ jackets being the best of the playoff tradition this year. Whether or not that bodes well for the Stars’ playoff run is TBD.
WFAA previously covered the Stars’ WAGs 2024 jackets, wherein they partnered with TKO Paintings to create custom denim jackets. In 2023, WFAA profiled the satin bomber jackets with the name, number, and patches of their partner. In 2025, the jackets were more understated with leather and dark green numbers with a logo on the front of the jacket.Â
