The Philadelphia Flyers will battle the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 3 of the opening round of the NHL Playoffs on Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will travel to the other side of the state on Wednesday for Game 3 of a best-of-seven series against the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the Eastern Conference. The Flyers have a two-game lead in the series after winning the first two games of the series on the road at PPG Paints Arena. They took the first game last Saturday, 3-2, on a game-winning goal from Porter Martone. Before that goal, Travis Sanheim and Jaime Drysdale had both scored. Martone’s goal put Philadelphia up 3-1, before Bryan Rust scored for Pittsburgh. The Penguins just weren’t able to get the game-tying goal before time expired.

In Game 2, which was on Monday night, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were evenly matched to start, going scoreless in the first period. Philadelphia broke the tie with a goal from Martone, who became the first teenager in NHL history to score a goal in his first two career playoff games. Despite being shorthanded, Garnet Hathaway scored a brilliant goal that was set up by Owen Tippett to go up 2-0. Luke Glendening scored the final goal in the third period on an empty net.

Pittsburgh is going to have to solely lean on its veteran leadership for Game 3. While this team is the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference, it was still a large favorite to win the series coming in. The veteran trio of Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang are going to need to step up. Specifically, Crosby, who led the team with 74 points this season and has only seven shots in two games with none on target.

Pittsburgh will play one more game in Philadelphia after Wednesday before heading back to PPG Paints Arena for Game 5.
