PHILADELPHIA – The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov from WIlkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Wednesday.
This transaction was made in advance of the Game 3 of a first-round playoff series between the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Murashov, who was sitting in the press box approximately one hour before the opening faceoff, was summoned to serve as an emergency backup goaltender should the need arise. The Penguins did something similar with Wheeling Nailers goaltender Taylor Gauthier for Games 1 and 2.
Wednesday’s transaction was not announced by the team but it was reflected on the AHL’s website.
During the regular season, Murashov made his NHL debut, appearing in five games and posting a 1-1-2 record, a 2.56 goals against average, an .897 save percentage and one shutout.
An All-Star selection at the AHL level, Murashov appeared in 38 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and had a 24-9-4 record, a 2.20 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and four shutouts.
