When free agency rolls around on July 1st, who will GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers part ways with? There may not be a laundry list for now, but we have a good idea of who could be moved, including Matt Rempe and K’Andre Miller.
The New York Rangers, according to GM Chris Drury, are open for business, and we could see some major changes in the lineup.
According to Justin Bonhard of Blueshirt Banter, there are three players in particular who could be moved in order to facilitate the retool further.
Here’s who’s been included on the list.
Matt Rempe is a fan favorite who made a name for himself fighting numerous heavyweights in the NHL. As someone who improved his game after last season, this could be an optimal time for the Rangers to move on from him.
As part of the Rempire Towers, it’d be a sad sight to see him leave, but given his career as an enforcer, he could end up on the short end of the stick.
Careers for enforcers are typically short, due to the injuries suffered and the punishment taken on a regular basis.
It should be troubling for fans that the Rangers and Miller have yet to reach a new deal. Miller’s downturn in 2024-2025 mirrored the entire team, which disappointed fans and pundits alike with their lack of consistency this year.
As a potential top-pairing defenseman, could he find himself elsewhere? The RFA’s status is in question, considering we’re now in May and he’s still not signed.
Kreider may be another fan favorite in New York, but his 13-year tenure in New York could very well be at an end. Considering Drury’s latest statement, no one is off the table, including Kreider, who could’ve been traded earlier in the season had he not been injured.
Like Sam Rosen, the Tampa Bay game in MSG felt like a send-off; his body language told the whole story as it seemed like one big good-bye to his loving fans.
Kreider could continue his career elsewhere on a contending team in the NHL. But it won’t be New York.
