Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving is looking to change up the dynamic in Toronto this summer, and Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Leafs are currently exploring buyout options.
After years of hearing “everything is on the table”, Treliving’s comments were seen as a breath of fresh air, but many in Leafs Nation are still hesitant to believe them unless they are followed with action.
On Friday’s ’32 Thoughts’, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman explained that the Leafs will be different up front and that Treliving and his staff are contemplating freeing up some cap space by utilizing buyout options.
“They will be different… I do think they will contemplate buyouts at the bottom of the forward lineup.”
As noted above, exploring waivers and buyouts to free up cap space and change the bottom-six has led to plenty of speculation that David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok will become part of that change.
Jarnkrok, 33, has one more season at a $2.1M cap hit while Kampf carries a $2.4M cap hit for another two years.
With free agency officially one month away, Treliving and the Leafs are about to make a lot of noise and change – something Leafs Nation is looking forward to.
