The 2025 NHL Draft is upon us as June has arrived. The New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury will have to conclude their scouting and make sure they have their best plans in hand, especially if one pick goes awry. If Center Roger McQueen is taken before they can pick at 12th overall, who could they select? Brady Martin.
While Tankathon has their 2025 NHL Mock Draft up, they have the Rangers and GM Chris Drury taking Center/LW Carter Bear at 12th overall. They could still luck into Roger McQueen at the NHL Draft, but at the moment, if we go by Tankathon, McQueen is projected to go 10th.
If that is the case, the New York Rangers will have to shift gears and go a completely different route.
That would be selecting the SOO Greyhounds forward, Brady Martin. He’s been described as a “Jesper Fast” style of forward, except he’s 10X meaner, and plays a two-hundred-foot game.
And while it’s difficult to see how the NHL Draft will play out, it’s nice to know who is out there, especially when it comes to talent that may find its way into the organization.
For Martin, his scouting report is nothing but full of glowing reviews, including this one from Jason Bukala of Sportsnet:
Jason Bukala – Sportsnet – March 26th: “Martin never cuts corners. He only weighs 178 pounds, but plays much bigger than his listed size. He finishes all of his checks, battles in the trenches, drives to the net and makes life generally miserable for opponents.”
If that is the kind of game Martin plays, it might not hurt to consider him, especially if the team is not protecting anyone, including Matt Rempe, in July during free agency.
Martin has played 109 games in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds (is Kyle Dubas’ radar going off right now?) and has scored a total of 100 points (43 goals, 57 assists), and is capable of adding offense, including his nasty style of play.
He might be a sleeper in the NHL draft this year.
