SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks are bringing back Patrick Giles, signing the depth centerman to a two-year, two-way contract extension.
The deal, announced Tuesday, carries a $875,000 salary cap hit at the NHL level, with guarantees of $325,000 in year one and $375,000 in year two. Giles had been a pending Group 6 unrestricted free agent.
This past season, the 26-year-old Giles had 24 points in 67 games with the San Jose Barracuda and had one assist in three games with the Sharks. Giles has two points in 20 career NHL games, including 11 with the Sharks.
In 262 career AHL games with the Barracuda and Charlotte Checkers, six-foot-five, 218-pound Giles has 72 points.
The Barracuda’s other pending UFAs are forwards Jimmy Huntington, Colin While and Samuel Labarge, with Shane Bowers and Egor Afanasyev as pending Group 6 free agents, who are at least 25 when their current contract expires, have played at least three seasons as a professional, and have less than 80 career NHL games.
Defenseman Lucas Carlsson and goalie Laurent Brossoit are pending UFA’s, and defenseman Jett Woo and goalie Jakub Skarek are pending Group 6 free agents.
Giles was originally signed as a free agent by Florida on Sept. 20, 2022. He joined San Jose via trade from Florida in exchange for Vitek Vanecek on Mar. 5, 2025.
