The Dallas Stars could be looking to offload pieces during the postseason, after another second-round exit in the playoffs. Could the New York Rangers luck into a top-six fixture, like Jason Robertson, if the price is right?
The Dallas Stars seemed like a shoo-in for a run to the Stanley Cup. After handily defeating the Colorado Avalanche, they were soon dismantled by the Edmonton Oilers.
But the season ended soon, and for many, it was a disappointment.
For GM Jim Nill, he’ll have to consider Robertson’s value when it comes to trading the superstar who makes a little bit less than what the Rangers have in cap space right now, $8.42 million.
The Rangers could easily find a spot in the lineup for someone like Jason Robertson, but considering he makes $7.75 million, the Rangers would need the Stars to retain salary or bring a third party in for retention’s sake.
In 82 games for the Stars, he scored a total of 80 points (35 goals, 45 assists) and will not come cheap.
Here’s how we speculate a trade might happen between the two teams:
Dallas:
Jason Robertson
New York:
Alexis Lafreniere
Brennan Othmann
2025 first-round pick (7th overall)
2026 first-round pick
It might be a costly addition to acquire Jason Robertson, but he’d be another building block in an anemic Rangers offense that has been missing all year.
While nothing has been confirmed as far as trade talks, you have to imagine that after losing twice in the second round consecutively, something is wrong.
We think it’s Peter DeBoer, but we’d happily take Jason Robertson.
