NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has an idea of what the Rangers’ offseason will look like. According to him, the Rangers and Chris Drury are ready for business and looking for offers on multiple players. So begins the rebuild or “retool”?

The New York Rangers will be ready to wheel and deal when free agency starts, and with a foot ahead of the rest, GM Chris Drury could be busy working the phones already.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers will be a team to look out for this postseason, as he’s ready to accept offers for players.

«He’s listening. He wants to make the team better. He’s not just sitting back,» Friedman said on-air. He also noted that this could be one of the busiest off seasons for the Rangers in recent years.

While Friedman didn’t exactly elaborate on who or what players he’ll be listening in on, we can’t help but feel the usual suspects here are involved.

Which means, an RFA like K’Andre Miller could be in the mix, while veterans like Chris Kreider could be next to go if Drury has his way.

The New York Rangers suffered a disappointing 2024-2025 season, which saw the team take a major step back in production and play.

They’d experience defensive collapses nightly, leaving Igor Shesterkin out to dry, while not finding anything resembling a sound hockey game until JT Miller arrived.Of course, they’d lose Victor Mancini and Filip Chytil in the process, along with Kaapo Kakko and Jacob Trouba beforehand. This seems like it was the endgame for Drury all along.

The Rangers under Peter Laviolette finished 5th in the Metropolitan Division, with a record of 39-36-7. Mike Sullivan was the first major sign that pieces will be moving during the postseason, as the team shifts in a new direction.

The only hope for the fans is that this will deliver the team to the playoffs. The 2024-2025 Rangers were unable to clinch even a Wild Card spot this season.
